"Osanna - Time" is the new and highly anticipated release by Osanna, including a beautiful photo book and a double DVD (directed and produced by two independent Italian record labels : Afrakà of Naples and Black Widow from Genoa).
Collectors and lovers of "progressive rock" will surely love this piece of art for its artistic value and for the rediscovered vintage footage that it contains, the synthesis of which has brought to light some "goodies, exclusive and unreleased footage from the 70s.
The elegant and stylish book presents an overview of current photographic images, live images and footage from the earliest historical formation of the band, with Elio D'Anna , Danilo Rustici, Massimo Guarino and Lello Brandi with their relative biography in Italian and English, and a careful and targeted preface by Franco Vassia. The two DVDs are divided into "Osanna - Live in Naples" and "Osanna Story". They represent the entire story of the Neapolitan band from its inception (with the first few video clips from television broadcasts of the '70s), to the recent live performance in Naples in 2012.
The first DVD, "Osanna - Live in Naples" was recorded in the historic Teatro Trianon in Naples, on October the 24th, 2012, presenting the CD and LP "Rosso Rock" with a live event which was attended by special guests such as David Jackson, Sophya Baccini, Maurizio Capone, Elio Eco, Giampiero Ingrassia, Gianni Leone, Antonella Morea, Tito Schipa Jr., the Banda Concerto Musicale Speranza of Pino Ciccarelli and the string Orchestra "Rosso Rock Ensemble" directed by Gianluca Falasca. The concert and the DVD is divided into two stages: the first part includes the execution of the historical Osanna tracks by David Jackson and two other guests that were on the CD and LP "Prog Family" from 2009 , such as Gianni Leone of Balletto di Bronzo and Sophya Baccini, in songs like "'a Zingara", ", "Introduzione da YS" del Balletto di Bronzo, "Everybody’s gonna see you die", In un vecchio cieco", "Vado verso una meta" e "Theme One" by VDGG as closure of the first parte. The second part, a tribute to the soundtrack of the movie "Milano Calibro 9", directed by Fernando Di Leo, with the entire suite from the historic album "Preludio Tema Variazione e Canzona" made in '72 with the Maestro Luis Bacalov , see Osanna joined in a wonderful performance by string Orchestra named "Rosso Rock Ensemble" directed by Maestro Gianluca Falasca. Guest on There Will Be Time variation is the actor and singer Giampiero Ingrassia. The second part, with the string orchestra, see other guests join in, like Tito Schipa Jr. in the songs "Per la Strada " (taken from his Orfeo 9) and "Fiume" from the LP "Landscape of Life" recorded in '74. Then three other special guests come onstage: the singer and actress Antonella More, and the percussionists Maurizio Capone and Elio Eco, protagonists in the final tracks "’O Culore ‘e Napule" e "Fuje ‘a chistu paese".
The second DVD , "Osanna - Story" is made of 20 clips, selected and retrieved from the archives of the TV channels RAI, Telecapodistria and from private archives too. Osanna took part in various television shows, video clips, and there is also some footage of live concerts: all these historical documents have been remastered to high standards. A succession of footage from 1971 to 2009, let us track track the various and different formations of the group, and there are RAI and Telecapodistria broadcasts from live shows in Naples and Savona. Many songs like "L’Uomo " (signature of Hosanna, repeated several times), are anticipated by the beautiful presentations of famous Italian showmen such as Renzo Arbore, Enrico Simonetti, Quartetto Cetra, Corrado, Gianni De Berardinis, Nino Fuscagni and Vanna Brosio and extracts from broadcasts like "Speciale 3 Milioni", "Amico Flauto", "Domenica In", "Adesso Musica", "Speciale Pop" etc.
Very striking is the section about the "Be-In" in Naples, '73 (a pop rally organized in the Camaldoli hill of Naples by the same Osanna), to the stage where you see dozens and dozens of musicians and bands of the rock scene of those years, including a young Franco Battiato and probably many others who will recognize themselves in those striking images shot in black and white (RAI). This is a really unique document: 11 clips are from the 70s and 9 clips document the years of the Osanna reunion: 2000-2009. In the second part (after the video clip "L’Uomo " recorded at The Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, inserted in the album "Taka Boom"), we find live footage from the concert presentation held at the Mediterranean Theater of Naples in 2001, part of the DVD "Osanna - Men and Myths", and the concert at the Teatro Chiabrera of Savona for the presentation of the Album "Prog Family" in 2009. In these films we can track the evolution of 5 Osanna line-ups in which the leader and singer Lino Vairetti is the only element of continuity.
