I stumbled into Sofia DeVille’s amazing music while I was surfing over the internet, expecially MySpace, scouting for new talents for Rockerilla Magazine. She is Swedish and wild enough to live in a real forest. Her personality blossoms in these early demos from 2007/8 brutally recorded at home. They still hold an unbelievable, wild strenght and innocence. Brave songs that reminded me of Danielle Dax, Syd Barrett and Josephine Foster’s early works and early Devendra Banhart, too.
Those were memorable days: I discovered another girl from Helsingborg, just near Sofia’s homeplace, Jeanette Sollén, who became one of the first artist to be signed for Dark Companion (is there something in the water they drink up there?). Even though we are working on Sofia DeVille’s proper new album with new songs,
I decided however to release those amazing raw demos, full of rage and naivety, now that I have eventually luckily found them laying in my drawer, leaving untouched, unedited, as they were, sure they will capture your attention as they did, and do, to mine. Those home recordings are still keeping the fiery energy that
shocked me when I first listened at. Miss DeVille’s music retains some elemental force and I am very proud of this debut limited edition album. She’s fantastic, shy, sensitive, humble and hugely talended and... really a beautiful person. I am really happy and proud to welcome her in our artist log.
