Guru dello psychpop e padrino dello steampunk, PAUL ROLAND pubblica il suo 25° album in studio.

"Wyrd Tales of an Antiquary" fornisce un'ulteriore prova della continua maturità e sviluppo di Roland sia come cantautore con uno stile unico e distintivo sia come compositore di musica classica contemporanea. L'album contiene una raccolta di quelle che lui chiama "brani narrativi estesi" (ovvero brani di oltre 8 minuti composti da diversi segmenti che raccontano una storia breve completa) e intermezzi strumentali tratti dalla sua "Grimm Fantasy For Orchestra" (qui nella loro forma demo originale con tutti gli strumenti suonati dal compositore.)

La combinazione degli intermezzi pastorali e le canzoni acustiche delicatamente orchestrate creano un'atmosfera evocativa di fiabe oscure e inquietanti incontri soprannaturali, una miscela che ha fatto guadagnare a Roland un selezionato e ferocemente fedele seguito di fans che continua a crescere con ogni nuova uscita e apparizione dal vivo.

"Non avevo intenzione di registrare un altro album da solista, ma tre anni fa sono stato invitato a contribuire con due nuove canzoni a un progetto di HP Lovecraft e quando è stato posticipato ho scoperto di avere abbastanza canzoni da aggiungere per creare un album solista (incluse tre ispirate alle suggestive storie di fantasmi inglesi di M.R. James, una delle quali - "Lost Hearts" - era una breve suite con narrazione che avrebbe dovuto costituire il nucleo di un'opera da camera). Quindi, tutto sembrava combaciare magnificamente e posso onestamente dire che nessun altro mio album mi ha dato tanto piacere e soddisfazione da fare o da ascoltare e spero che gli altri lo apprezzeranno altrettanto."

In altre parole, un'altra gemma di uno dei migliori cantautori viventi, da sempre il preferito di John Peel: un capolavoro intimo dal sapore folk/cantautorale.
