A choral, ambitious and reflective album for the Abruzzo band. A seventh work of polyphonic and contemporary prog-rock
MMXX: the return of Ifsounds!
«MMXX is a very ambitious album, a step forward in our artistic history. We have made our music coexist with choral music, ancient but exciting and very modern in spirit.
The composition of the suite, in particular, required considerable study and subsequently a particular effort to fit together the rock arrangements with the harmonies of a polyphonic choir."
Ifsounds are proud of the release of MMXX, their seventh album. The new piece of a long history, which began in 1993 with the foundation and with the first album in 2006, and has now reached a work, as underlined by the Abruzzo band, ambitious and demanding.
The historic American label Melodic Revolution Records, led by Nick Katona, has confirmed its support for Ifsounds,
who, five years after the acclaimed An Gorta Mór, return with a once again conceptual work, focused on contemporary dramas.
Starting from what remains of the pandemic.
The lockdown inspired Ifsounds in the search for a vehicle that evoked relationality and contact with others.
A contact lost for health reasons and rebuilt in music also through chorality: «The pandemic has upset our lives, calling into question all aspects of our existence, even the most banal. Today it all seems to be in the past and I am partly noticing a certain tendency to remove from my mind the sensations experienced during those two nightmarish years, but I believe that that was the most absurd, alienating and dystopian period globally that our generation went through. For this reason we decided to put into music and words the sensations and fears of those days, which influenced our daily actions in such a dramatic way and which irreversibly changed our world and ourselves. And we did it through choral music, the genre which, by definition, requires the closest contact between the people we had now lost".
Since the time of the first album, passing through albums that from time to time have shown the evolution of the band led by Dario Lastella, Ifsounds have tried to distance themselves from the classic canons of progressive rock to interpret it in a different key, actually considering it a " way of doing things."
And once again, Italian progressive rock enjoys wide credit abroad: «Progressive for us is the attitude to music and research, which is expressed in the fusion of various genres to color the sensations we want to convey: progressive rock not it is a genre, but a way of playing, ranging between rock, jazz, classical, electronic, with an eye to the great music of the past to be preserved and evolved into new languages.
Italians play well and they know it all over the world except in Italy!
