Santini’s Zodiac
The moon, stars and planets have inspired many poets and composers, but we find very few musical works inspired by the Zodiac constellations as the main theme.
Italian composer Damiano Santini composed his mammoth Zodiac cycle for piano over three decades - starting with Aries in 1989 and endingwith Pisces in 2019 completed just prior to Italian pianist Alessandra Garosi’s 2019 Australian tour, including performances with regular collaborators and master musicians, Adam Simmons andDavid Jones. The trio created and recorded special arrangements of the entire cycle of 12 pieces in Melbourne, building upon the rapport of their previous “Zappa in Recital” program. The Plans were in place to premiere the trio version and launch the CD in 2020 in Australia and Italy, which of course were thwarted by the pandemic. Zodiac by Karlheins Stockhausen was originaly written for carillon, but then edited in many different version with acoustic instruments. The first part will be also combined the two
compositions, in a sort of melting pot between the two operas by the two composers.
