Phil Selvini & The Mind Warp - T.E.T.R.U.S.
[CD Digipack]

Phil Selvini & The Mind Warp - T.E.T.R.U.S.
During the pandemic, I came into contact with Francesco Mucciacito, a cartoonist recommended to me by other artists. The concept I had in mind for the cover of my first album was a monster with seemingly apocalyptic overtones, a dispenser of hatred and destruction. After years of commissions and work, the monster even acquired its own name: T.E.T.R.U.S.

It's actually a rather bizarre acronym, but one steeped in meaning and metaphor. The words derived from this acronym have been considered over time as ideals to believe in, almost like "commandments" that the monster will pursue and seek to pass on to future peoples who will inhabit the earth.

T - "time" E - "eternal" T - "try" R - "redemption" U - "unique" S - "shine"

They seem like unrelated terms, yet listening to the songs on this album, now finished and ready for release, you can sense the essence and state of mind of the monster within each of us.

Musically and lyrically, the album addresses complex and sophisticated songs in a poetic manner: in "To Make Ends Meet," alienation and mass control, consumerism, and empty conformism are the main themes. The rhythm is nervous, the atmosphere at times disturbing and dreamy, evoking images of empty people in search of a leader, like sheep in need of a shepherd. Anyone who dares to rebel against the rules is considered mad by a conservative, greedy society populated by schizophrenic men.

The introspective and melancholic "Riding In The Fog" occasionally recalls Pink Floyd, with its ascending melodies and evocative passages here shaping a sleepless and silent ghost riding through the hills on a foggy night. An autumn night where everything around fades and dreams turn into nightmares...

"The Last 48 Hours" and the long suite that bears the ensemble's name "The Mind Warp," the album's closing tracks, are somehow connected, describing the emotions one can experience following the loss of a loved one. Grief, mourning, delirium, menacing shadows, and the inner chill that an empty house can convey (the repeatedly mentioned marble house where the entire story unfolds). But here, the marble house can also be understood as a metaphor for the tomb, and the overall mood of these last two songs is that of a touching and sincere elegy.
