Syndone progband, an historic Italian progressive music group, began toward the end of 1989 when the composer/keyboard player Nik Comoglio decided to form a ELP style trio, with Paolo Sburlati on drums and Fulvio Serra on bass, very much inspired by ideas and totally avoiding arrangements for their own sake and, especially, the electric guitar, always an overused instrument in every genre.
…“We wanted a name that would evoke all together “Sacralità (Sacredness), “Turin,” “Spirituality” and “Solchi Incisi (Scored Grooves)” (like an old vinyl LP) so I thought of SYNDONE, with the “Y” to differentiate it from the famous relic and make it international at the same time, without being blasphemous. This name in fact immediately evokes Turin in any part of the world … and I liked this”… [Nik]
After two works: “Spleen” (1990) and “Inca” (1992) , produced by Beppe Crovella, the band broke up due to reasons internal to the group, and each of the musicians would follow different personal paths.
Eighteen years later, the band returns on the scene with a new form as a quintet. The new musicians are: Federico Marchesano (bass and double-bass) – Francesco Pinetti (vibrafono and timpani) – Paolo Rigotto (drums and percussion) – Riccardo Ruggeri (vocals) and Nik Comoglio, the only one remaining of the old group (piano, Hammond, moog, rhodes and keyboards).
In 2010 their new album came out, with the title “MELAPESANTE” in which the spirit and the typical sound of Syndone remain alive, but with a new ensemble compositional vision that refers to all the technical/expressive contributions of the artistic backgrounds of the individual musicians that are part of the new band.
Production of the CD is also by Beppe Crovella for Electromantic music.
Syndone’s new CD is Prog at his best.
The talent of Nik Comoglio, after years in “classical composition” has furtherly improved in the years, following Beppe Crovella’s guidelines for their music.
New singer Riccardo Ruggeri is amazing, one of the most distinguished voices in new alternative music.
Studio album, 2010.
